System Administrator 2

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for monitoring, performance, security, and operation of IT systems both physical and virtual. This also includes collaborating with external vendors and internal IT team members around the same for the enterprise applications, databases, and networks used or hosted on those systems. Those systems may be remote or local. This position will also interface with the company’s internal Support Services group for change management, incident handling, and problem resolution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist other System Administrators in providing continual system coverage.
• Monitor current applications and systems for performance bottlenecks; Research and resolve performance problems.
• Monitor system hardware for problems and contact necessary support vendors for resolution.
• Use and manage standard applications designed to support or enhance system availability or reliability. 
• Utilize, adhere to, and help define current best practice standards of administration.
• Test and maintain and recommend third-party software applications that support or enhance supported environment. 
• Maintain acceptable revision or version level of all system native or third party installed software.
• Assist in maintenance of IT disaster recovery plans (DRP) and participate in recovery exercises.
• Provide regular updates to Manager on all projects and tasks.
• Assist Manager in developing long-range hardware and software plans.
• Develop and maintain a productive working relationship with personnel across several departments.
• Recommend changes and provide alternative approaches for workability and economic feasibility.
• Review policies, procedures and documentation according to current established standards.
• Responsible for documentation of systems, developing new standards, and utilizing collaboration arenas such as Microsoft SharePoint and Teams.
• Other duties as assigned by company management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: BS degree in computer-related field. Applicable work experience may be substituted for educational requirements. 3-5 years of hardware and software systems administration in an Enterprise environment.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills. Ability to communicate appropriately with internal associates and external vendors at all levels. Configuring and troubleshooting hardware, software, Operating Systems, storage, and network interactions, familiarity with common types of monitoring tools and server hardware. 

Other Skills and Abilities: 

• Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills. Ability to communicate appropriately with internal associates and external vendors at all levels. Configuring and troubleshooting hardware, software, Operating Systems, storage, and network interactions, familiarity with common types of monitoring tools and server hardware.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Visio and other applicable collaborative software programs. Knowledge of common enterprise topologies, hardware, networking environments and protocols such as ethernet, SAN, NAS, DAS, Fiber Channel, CIFS, NFS, VMFS, and iSCSI. Experience with multiple versions and configurations of Microsoft Windows Professional and Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, DNS,as well as familiarity with Linux-based systems.
• Demonstrate ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects, work after hours/maintenance windows, ability to work well with people from many different disciplines and with varying degrees of technical experience, excellent interpersonal skills, and a willingness to learn. Must be reachable by mobile device. Ability to work safely and efficiently in a secure and environmentally controlled enterprise Data Center environment which includes high voltages, electrically and physically sensitive equipment, open and confined space work environments, cable runs beneath a raised sub-floor, work above a drop ceiling requiring a ladder, overhead (top of cabinet) patch panels. Ability to: Lift up to 75 lbs. (ex. Servers, disk shelves, boxes of data tapes, etc.).
• The operation and design of, VMware vSphere and other common virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V. Virtual and physical desktop administration and related tools such as SCCM, Symantec Endpoint Protection, and Bomgar.
