Automation Engineer

About the Role

Technical Source is looking for an Automation Engineer for our system integrator client in Wilson, NC, to join their project design team. You'll take customer automation projects from concept through startup, with full ownership of the electrical and controls design. Most of the work is on Allen-Bradley/Rockwell platforms, with exposure to process, motion, robotics and vision applications.

What you'll do

• Design, budget, commission and test process systems and equipment for customer projects.
• Develop PLC and HMI programs requiring process, automation and motion control.
• Own the complete electrical design, from preliminary concept to buildable design and implementation.
• Design PLC hardware, instrumentation, control devices and networks.
• Start up and commission PLCs, SCADA/HMI and network systems at customer sites, including hardware and software debug.
• Manage project scope and budget as part of a collaborative design engineering team.

What you bring

• BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of industrial experience designing control systems and programming PLCs.
• Strong Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley experience (Studio 5000), plus exposure to Siemens, GE or Modicon.
• Proven ability to take a preliminary concept to a buildable design: PLC hardware, instrumentation, control devices, networks, and PLC and HMI programming.
• Hands-on startup and commissioning of PLCs, SCADA/HMI and network systems on process equipment.
• Project management experience and proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Experience with VMware, ThinManager and SQL Reporting.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites for startups (up to 25%, primarily local).
